Fad diets are everywhere. It is assumed that you must find the right diet plan for weight loss to occur. Unfortunately we have all bought in to this assumption, that unless we are depriving ourselves and are unhappy, we won’t lose weight. I have a friend who just went on the latest fad plan which involves injecting herself with hormones while she consumes 500 calories a day.
I can’t convince her that anyone would lose weight on 500 calories a day, no matter what they inject. What a way to try and drop excess fat! Realistically, what will happen when she stops the plan after the recommended 3 weeks? Chances are she will start to gain her weight right back.
Long Term Plan for Healthy Weight Loss
The only way to permanently lose weight is to view the issue in the long term. What you do now should be sustainable for the rest of your life. Am I saying that you will be dieting for the rest of your life? No. What I am saying is that you won’t be dieting now or then. You will be eating in a sustainable, healthy way.
You see, any diet that encourages you to abandon whole food groups in order to lose weight isn’t sustainable. You need things such as carbohydrates, fruits, vegetables and proteins to survive. Think about your weight loss as a life long project; you don’t want to lose the weight and have it return, you want to be able to eat normally and maintain your new figure.
Your Basic Healthy Meal Plan Based on Metabolic Typing
The first thing any healthy eating plan should do is assess your metabolism. Do you get sleepy after a meal based upon carbs? Do they energize you? Does protein make you feel good and satisfied? There are several simple questions you can answer to help you focus in on the best foods for you.
Once you have some idea of what helps you feel your best, you need to make some changes, not just to what you eat, but how you eat. Any healthy eating plan should be filled with nutritious, tasty food. Furthermore, these foods should be easy to prepare, satisfying and promote fat loss.
Building Blocks to Successful Weight Loss
Think of the foods you bring home as your building blocks to lifelong success. That way, when you spend a bit more for organic produce and grains or grass fed meats you will do so more willingly.
It may take you some time, but you can start slowly. Start by eliminating foods that contain sugars, corn syrup or say refined in the labels. Replace them, one at a time if necessary, with whole food alternatives. Your next step is to educate yourself specifically about how to incorporate this type of diet plan for weight loss.
