What can’t you eat?
The first question I hear all the time when talking about diets is, “What can’t I eat when I am following the DSP?” People are so used to denying themselves, that it comes as no surprise that this is a key question. Here is the answer.
Refined sugar of any kind, artificial sweeteners and refined carbohydrates should all be removed from your kitchen. These all cause elevations in blood sugar resulting in an insulin reaction which quickly stores the sugar as fat. It also causes you to feel moody and hungry. Talk about a lose/lose situation!
Commercially raised beef, lamb, pork, fish and poultry are also discouraged. Not only are these sources of protein laden with artificial chemicals, antibiotics and hormones, they have poorer nutritional profiles. Take beef for example; raise it on pastures and it has less fat, more vitamin E and antioxidants and better taste than lot raised cattle. Any source of protein is perfectly good for you, if it is raised right and doesn’t contain nitrates or nitrites. Oh, and raised right for fish means wild caught, not farm raised.
Eliminate table salt and soy as well. Table salt is loaded with sodium so replace it with sea salt which has much more potassium, something your body needs. Soy contains phytoestrogens which your body transforms into excess estrogen in rapid order, and it is one of the most heavily modified, sprayed and abused crops worldwide.
What should you eat?
This is the fun part. You can eat meat, poultry, whole eggs, fruits and vegetables, many types of whole grains, raw nuts, and even dark chocolate. You actually get to eat all of this and certain fats as well. You can enjoy some organic butter on your sweet potato, sauté your spinach in extra virgin olive oil and do a little deep frying in coconut oil. You see, if you eat the right foods your body will know how to break them down and use them for energy rather than feeling like it needs to store them as fat. Perhaps the best thing is this method of eating is sustainable and can keep you healthy for the rest of your life. It won’t be long before you will feel better and look better too.
